Jan Ekström, MSc in Technical Physics,
Helsinki University of Technology.
Managing Director and founder of Aidertech.
He has a 30 years experience in various management
and leadership positions in Datex, Datex-Ohmeda,
Instrumentarium, GE Healthcare and Aidertech. He has been
building a successful medical technology business from
a small enterprise into a global market leader. Mr. Ekström is
a lecturer on IP strategy in Aalto University and
University of Eastern Finland.
Mr. Ekström joined Datex in 1980 and held various project
and product manager positions. He was based in the US
in 1987 -1988 as a Liaison Manager. After returning to
Finland he held a Product Group Manager position before
being promoted to General Manager, OEM Business Unit.
In 1998 he was responsible for the management of the integration process of the acquired Ohmeda units into Datex-Ohmeda. Acquired business was 410 MUSD in revenue and had 2600 employees. From 1999 to 2003 he held the position of Vice President and General Manager, Technology Exchange responsible for partnering and technology in- and out-sourcing projects. He was also in charge of Datex-Ohmeda’s patent strategy. In 2003 he joined the team that planned the forthcoming integration of Instrumentarium into GE Healthcare. From 2004 to 2005 he was the Engineering Director of GE Healthcare’s Oximetry, Supplies and Accessories Business Unit overseeing product and IP strategy planning and implementation. He founded Aidertech in 2005.
Mr. Ekström has experience as a board chairman and member of several technology companies and he is a member of The Finnish Association of Professional Board Members.
